SignTracker alternative for sign shops that price by the part
A good SignTracker alternative for a sign shop whose real problem is pricing is SignEstimator. SignTracker is job management with quoting templates and markups. SignEstimator is an estimating engine built for sign work: it counts sheets, LED modules, power supplies, machine hours, install crew and lift class, then shows the sale price and real margin before the quote goes out.
If your shop mostly needs a job board, file storage and QuickBooks sync for a large crew at a low flat price, SignTracker is hard to beat and we say so below. If jobs leave the door underpriced, read on. The prices on this page come from the public SignTracker pricing page at the time of writing, so check their site before you decide.

What each tool is built around
SignTracker describes itself as sign shop management software. Its own homepage lists quoting templates for each job type, control over markups and margins, a shareable job flow board, team task templates, file storage with each job and a QuickBooks link for the online and desktop versions. It is owned by Inktavo, the same group that owns Printavo. For a shop that wants everyone looking at one board, that is a useful set of tools.
SignEstimator starts one step earlier, at the number. A quoting template with a markup works when your jobs look alike. Sign work rarely does. A 24 inch halo lit set on a 30 foot fascia and a 12 inch front lit set at door height share a template but not a cost: the returns, the LED count, the power supplies, the lift and the crew hours all move. SignEstimator calculates those parts from your own materials and rates on every quote, so the price follows the job instead of the template.
- You want a job board, tasks and file storage for a big crew at a flat price: SignTracker fits well.
- You want each quote priced from the real parts, install and margin of that sign: SignEstimator fits well.
- You want both: quote in SignEstimator Team, which adds a jobs board, work orders, install calendar and job costing.
SignTracker and SignEstimator prices at a glance
SignTracker sells three plans sized by headcount. Every feature is included on every plan, and paying yearly takes 10 percent off. SignEstimator also sells flat plans with seats included, and paying yearly takes 50 percent off.
| Item | SignTracker | SignEstimator |
|---|---|---|
| Plans, billed monthly | Starter $65, Small Teams $129, Built to Scale $189 | Solo $49, Shop $149, Team $399, Multi-location $899 |
| Plans, billed yearly, per month | $58.50, $116.10, $170.10 | $24, $74, $199, $449 |
| Users per plan | 1 to 2, 3 to 5, unlimited | 1, up to 5, up to 20, unlimited |
| Per-user fee | None | None |
| Onboarding fee | None listed, training and support included | None, self-serve setup |
| Trial | 14-day free trial | One demo estimate on the homepage without an account |
| Accounting link | QuickBooks Online and Desktop | QuickBooks Online and Xero export (Shop plan and up) |
Both tools price by plan, not by login, so neither bill climbs every time you hire. The difference is where the money goes. SignTracker's top plan gives unlimited users for $189 a month. SignEstimator charges more at the top end because each plan carries a monthly allowance of AI quote drafts and the full estimating engine.
What a 1, 2, 5 and 15 person shop pays each month
We pick the smallest plan on each side that covers the headcount. Numbers are list prices at the time of writing, in US dollars.
| Shop size | SignTracker billed monthly | SignTracker billed yearly, per month | SignEstimator plan | SignEstimator billed monthly | SignEstimator billed yearly, per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 person | $65 | $58.50 | Solo | $49 | $24 |
| 2 people | $65 | $58.50 | Shop | $149 | $74 |
| 5 people | $129 | $116.10 | Shop | $149 | $74 |
| 15 people | $189 | $170.10 | Team | $399 | $199 |
The honest reading: a one-person shop pays less with SignEstimator either way. A two-person shop pays less with SignTracker. At five people SignEstimator is cheaper on yearly billing and a little more on monthly billing. At fifteen people SignTracker costs less on both. For a full year with yearly billing, a five-person shop pays about $1,393 for SignTracker Small Teams and $888 for SignEstimator Shop.
Price alone rarely decides it. One underpriced channel letter set can cost a shop more than a year of either subscription, which is the problem SignEstimator is built to stop. We compare more vendors by shop size in our sign shop software cost breakdown.
Every quote priced from the parts of the sign
You pick a template for channel letters (front lit, back lit or open face), a cabinet or lightbox, a monument, a pylon, dimensional letters, ACM panels, vinyl banners, window graphics, vehicle wraps or wayfinding. Then the engine works out the lines that eat margin when they are guessed.
- Area, perimeter and waste, with the sheet count for 4x8 and 5x10 sheets.
- Return and trim cap length for channel letters, LED module count and the number of 60 W or 100 W power supplies.
- Router, laser, printer and bender hours at your own machine rates.
- Labor hours, install crew size, lift or crane class by install height, travel, permits and subcontractors.
- Your overhead rate and target margin, with the sale price and the real margin shown before you send.
For a worked example on lit letters, see channel letter estimating software. For the install side, see sign installation estimating.
AI drafts from a photo, drawing, PDF or email
A customer sends a storefront photo, an architect's elevation or a long email with sizes. You upload it or forward it to your shop inbox, and SignEstimator reads it into a draft spec: sign type, size, letter count, illumination and install height. Pricing then runs on your materials and your rates. The AI never sets your prices, and you check every line before the quote goes out. Plans include 60 to 1,400 AI drafts a month, and manual estimates have no limit. See sign shop quoting software for the full flow.
Quotes customers can approve online
Each quote goes out as a branded PDF with your logo, colors and terms, plus a link where the customer approves and signs by name. Good, better and best options on one quote (Shop plan and up) let a customer pick a lit or unlit version without another round of email.
When SignTracker is the better pick
We would rather you buy the right tool than switch for the wrong reason.
- You run a large crew and want unlimited users on one board for under $200 a month.
- Your quotes are repeat work that a template and a markup price well enough.
- You keep your books in QuickBooks Desktop and want a direct link to it.
- Job tracking, task lists and file storage are the gap, not pricing.
When SignEstimator is the better pick
- Your estimates take an hour or more and still miss parts like power supplies, the lift or travel.
- You quote lit signs, monuments, pylons or installs where the cost changes a lot from job to job.
- You want customers' photos, drawings and emails turned into a priced draft in minutes.
- You want to see the real margin on every quote before it leaves the shop.
- You use QuickBooks Online or Xero.
How switching works
Import your materials and rates by CSV, set your shop labor rate, machine rates, overhead and target margin, and quote a new job the same day. Many shops keep finished jobs where they are and start new quotes in SignEstimator from day one. You can export your quotes and customers at any time. Weighing other tools too?
