Truck lettering prices and vehicle graphics quotes

Truck lettering prices come from four things: film and laminate square footage with waste, design time, print or plot time, and install hours for the vehicle size. Add removal and surface prep when needed. SignEstimator builds that quote from your own rates in minutes.

Door lettering, partial wraps and full wraps

Vehicle work comes in three common shapes, and each one is priced a little differently. Pick the right one first, and the rest of the estimate falls into place.

Cut vinyl door lettering is the simplest. A company name, a phone number and maybe a license number on two doors. The cost is mostly plotter time, weeding, transfer tape and a short install. Material is a small part of the price.

A partial wrap covers part of the vehicle, often the rear half, the sides below the window line, or the tailgate. It is printed and laminated. The design takes longer, and install time grows with every panel and curve.

A full wrap covers every painted panel. It uses the most film, has the most waste, needs the most design work and the longest install. It is also the job where a pricing mistake costs the most.

  • Door lettering, priced by plot, weed and install time
  • Partial wrap, priced by printed square footage and panel count
  • Full wrap, priced by vehicle class with full film, laminate and install hours

How to build a vehicle graphics price

Each line below is a part of the SignEstimator vehicle wraps template. Every rate is yours. The amounts on this page show the method and are not market prices.

01

Film and laminate with waste

Measure the panels you cover, not just the box size of the vehicle. Then add waste. Wraps need bleed on every edge, overlap at seams and extra for relief cuts around handles and mirrors. Waste on a full wrap is often much higher than on a flat banner. Laminate follows the same square footage plus its own waste.

SignEstimator stores wrap film and laminate in your material library with roll width, cost per square foot and waste factor. When you pick a vehicle class, the template proposes the panel area, and you adjust it to the real vehicle.

02

Design time

Design is a separate line, not a hidden cost. Door lettering may take half an hour. A full wrap with vehicle templates, mockups and two rounds of changes can take many hours. Price design at your design rate and set how many rounds of revisions the quote includes.

03

Print time and plot time

Printed graphics need printer hours by print mode and laminator hours. Cut lettering needs plotter time, then weeding and masking by hand. Fine script and small text take longer to weed, so add a complexity factor on lettering jobs.

04

Install hours by vehicle size

Install is where most vehicle quotes go wrong. A pickup door, a cargo van and a box truck are not the same job. SignEstimator lets you set install hours per vehicle class and per coverage level, plus crew size. A full wrap on a large van needs two installers for most of a day, while door lettering is one person for under an hour in many shops.

05

Removal of old graphics

Old vinyl that has baked in the sun can come off clean or in tiny pieces with adhesive left behind. Price removal by the hour, with a range for the condition. Note in the quote that removal time is an estimate and may change after you start.

06

Surface prep

Clean, degrease and check the paint before film goes on. Prep is short on a new vehicle and longer on a work truck. Give it its own line so it never gets skipped when the price gets tight.

Example quote for a cargo van partial wrap

This is an example job with example rates. It shows how the lines add up. Use your own rates in SignEstimator.

In this example, the job is a partial wrap on a mid size cargo van covering both sides and the rear doors, about 120 square feet of printed panels, with lamination and simple design changes to a supplied logo.

Line How it is calculated Example amount
Wrap film 120 sq ft plus 25 percent waste at $1.10 per sq ft $165.00
Laminate 120 sq ft plus 25 percent waste at 80 cents per sq ft $120.00
Design 3 hours at $75 per hour $225.00
Print and laminate time 2 hours at $45 per hour $90.00
Surface prep 1 hour at $55 per hour $55.00
Install 2 installers, 5 hours each at $55 per hour $550.00
Overhead 20 percent of cost $241.00
Cost total Sum of lines $1,446.00
Sale price at 45 percent margin Cost divided by 0.55 $2,629.09

Example numbers, use your own rates. In this example, no old graphics need removal. If they did, the quote would add a removal line priced by the hour.

Example quote for door lettering

In this example, the job is cut vinyl lettering on two pickup doors: company name, phone number and a website. The lines are plot time, weeding, transfer tape, about one install hour and a minimum charge. Most of the price is labor and the minimum, not vinyl. SignEstimator shows that split, so you know where the money is.

05 Fleets
05 Fleets

Price fleet jobs without losing margin

Fleet work brings the same design on many vehicles. Design is done once, setup is shared and install gets faster after the first few units. SignEstimator lets you set quantity breaks so the design line is spread across the fleet while film and install stay per vehicle.

On the Shop plan you can build good, better and best options: door lettering only, a partial wrap, or a full wrap. The customer sees three clear prices on one quote link and approves the one they want with an e-signature by name. Duplicate a past fleet quote, so a repeat fleet gets the same rates every time.

On the Team plan, the approved job moves to the jobs board, production work orders list print and laminate time per station, and the install scheduling calendar books your crew and bay.

Quote from a photo of the vehicle

A customer sends a phone photo of their van and a logo file. Upload both. The AI draft reads the vehicle type and the requested coverage into a draft spec and proposes lines. Pricing always uses your own film, laminate and labor rates. You review every line before the quote leaves the shop.
